Immigrants Are Not Political PawnsSafeguard Asylum and Reject ICE/CBP Funding

"In October, President Biden sent a new supplemental funding request, which asked for $5.3 billion more funds for Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and $2.5 billion for Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Congress is currently negotiating President Biden’s funding package request and some members are using immigrant communities to make tradeoffs, proposing extremist anti-asylum policies and pushing for more funding to ICE and CBP in exchange for more foreign militarized spending.

The extreme lasting changes being proposed to immigration policy as part of the supplemental funding negotiations could eviscerate the asylum system as we know it, deny more immigrants their freedom, and drastically expand deportations. To that, we say: immigrants and people seeking asylum should not be pawns in a political game to appease fear-mongering politicians...

...We urge lawmakers to oppose efforts to add billions of dollars for immigrant detention and border militarization, and safeguard critical asylum protections." Toolkit with more info and action items found at the button below + join a power hour on twitter happening now at 2PM CT!
