We recently joined 100+ organizations in a letter on Friday urging the White House to immediately use its authority to terminate DHS’ non-compliant AI programs and to deny waivers and exemptions that would enable DHS to continue withholding information from the public about its use of AI for surveillance, detention and deportations. 

We believe that all individuals, without any exceptions, are worthy of dignity and respect and that the detention of all individuals is unjust, unnecessary, and should be abolished. We are thrilled to announce that MIBF has successfully served as the obligor for our 18th bond posting this year!

Last week, MIBF joined 192 immigrant and civil rights organizations in a letter sent to President Biden and DHS Secretary Mayorkas urging them to take immediate action to protect immigrant communities before the next president follows through on his mass deportation plans, separating families and upending the lives of millions of people in the process.

Last week, we joined 90+ immigration groups in asking President Biden to release vulnerable people with illnesses or disabilities, who are LGBTQ+, or who are at risk of persecution or torture from detention centers across the United States as being detained puts their lives in jeopardy.

Earlier this month, the MIBF board met for a hybrid in-person/virtual retreat. We planned for the rest of the year and into 2025 and left feeling inspired and hopeful to continue freeing folks out of ICE detention.

We joined 125 human rights organizations to call on the Biden admin to stop detaining refugees at Guantánamo Bay and abandon plans to expand the detention of Haitian immigrants there. #NoToGuantanamo

MIBF was one of 197 organizations who signed and sent a letter to Congress yesterday in opposition of H.R. 5717, the No Bailout for Sanctuary Cities Act.

Earlier this week, 80 immigrant and civil rights organizations, legal services organizations, and law firms delivered a letter to DHS and ICE calling on the release all immigrants in ICE detention who have been granted fear-based protection from deportation.

140+ racial justice, imm rights, & privacy tech groups sent a letter to DHS Sec. Mayorkas asking for an end to their use of AI. The gov agency is in violation of federal policies the Biden admin set, and must halt its use by 12/1/24.
